Being a diver, I usually don’t really like going to aquariums because I prefer seeing the fishes in the free water. They may look beautiful in an aquarium but seeing them right in front of you in the ocean just triggers so many indescribable emotions, walking through an aquarium I continuously think: “Oh I wish I saw that in the ocean now…”. Another reason why I don’t like aquariums that much is that they keep some species that just should not be kept in a pool because they just need so much more space than they get there.
Monterey Bay Aquarium however did a pretty good job with how they treat their water animals in general, although I sometimes thought that some could definitely use a bit more space. Luckily, they did not have any bigger fishes like dolphins or bigger sharks – but what they had to offer was still stunning to watch 🙂
Afterwards we drove to Carmel, which is a beautiful small city nearby which seemed more like a holiday place. A lot of houses looked empty – just like vacation houses do most time of the year. Overall it’s a quite expensive place but it has so much charm walking through the streets passing all those little shops, cafés and restaurants… And not to forget: The ocean is marvelous! So many people were walking their dogs and surfing in the waves. I hope I can go back there someday on a nicer day and take some photos since that day it was very cloudy and dark.
