Frankfurt Opera: The Robbers

Posted by on August 13, 2011

A few weeks back I joined my friends to the opera in Frankfurt. I always wanted to go to the opera once just to see how it is like. I’ve always pictured this as something only the old and posh people would go to – and yes there were a lot of old and obviously well-heeled people attending this opera, but there were also a few students, probably dragged by the teacher since they already started analyzing the piece during the intermission, and people like me and my friends just having a good time. With the student discount we even got some amazing seats just a few meters away from the stage at a reasonable price! 😉

I really enjoyed the opera. One good thing was that I had already read the play “Die Räuber” (The Robbers) by Friedrich Schiller during middle school. It even might have been my very first play but I do remember that I really liked the story and remembered most of it. The opera was composed by Verdi and in Italian, but they showed the German translation on a little screen above the stage.

The opera season has ended beginning of July but I’m definitely going back there to see another opera when the season 2011/2012 starts in September. Maybe La Traviata or Otello? 🙂
